Bran Date Muffins

This recipe comes from an Alberta farm woman I knew when I lived in Calgary. The recipe is generations-old. If you like bran muffins, you will love these. Notice they are fat free. And easy!

2 cups bran (sawdust type)
1 cup flour
½ tsp. Salt
¼ cup molasses
¼ cup sugar if not sweet enough
1 egg slightly beaten
1 ½ cups milk
1 tsp. Baking soda dissolved in 1 tbsp. warm water
½ cup raisins or chopped dates

Throw ingredients together and stir just until mixed. Bake at 400 F in oven in paper-lined muffin cups for 15 to 17 minutes.
